NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (Nov. 8, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team lost its 2022-23 season-opener on Tuesday night up at SUNY New Paltz, 92-65.

Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) led all players on the night with 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting, a perfect 3-for-3 from long distance, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Junior
Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) added 16 points and just missed out on a double-double, as he tied for the game-high with nine rebounds.
It was just a two-possession game midway through the opening half before the Hawks started to pull away. The hosts' lead reached double-digits late in the first and only dropped back under two times before halftime, and remained in double-figures the entire second half.
Four players scored in double-digits for New Paltz – junior RJ Meyers-Turner with 17 (thanks to a game-high four 3-pointers), junior Rylan Blondo added 15, junior Tyreik Frazier scored 14 and junior Lucas Seyoum drained 12 points. Senior Brandon Scott tied Bristow for the game-high in rebounds with nine.
Up next, the Mariners will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., this Saturday, Nov. 12, to take on non-conference opponent NYU. Tipoff is scheduled for 12-noon at NYU's Brooklyn Athletic Facility Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
