BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2022) – The USMMA men's basketball team lost to NYU on the road on Saturday afternoon, 94-61. The loss drops the Mariners' record to 0-2, while the Violets open the year 2-0.

Four different players scored in double-figures for Merchant Marine, with junior
Josh Kauffman (East Providence, R.I.) leading the way by tying for the game-high with 13 points. Classmate
Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) drained 12 while also bringing down a team-best seven rebounds. Sophomores
Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) and
Isaac Vencel (Bloomington, Ind.) both contributed 10 points apiece in the defeat.

For NYU, who hit 33 three-pointers in the contest, the scoring was pretty spread out, as five different players had double-digit efforts. Junior Cinque Stephens tied Kauffman for the game-best with 13 points, while freshman Quinn Clark added 12. Grad student Michael Savarino also chipped in with 11 points and sophomores Zay Freeney and Holt Bashinsky both added 10 points each. Clark finished with a double-double, as he led all players in the game with 12 rebounds.

Up next, the Mariners will host Rutgers-Newark in their home-opener a week from today, Saturday, Nov. 19. It will be the second game of a doubleheader at the Liebertz Gym with the women's team.
