KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 9, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team built a 20-point advantage by halftime and went on to pick up a 58-33 victory over Hunter College on Sunday afternoon.
Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) led the Mariners with a near double-double performance, racking up 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

USMMA got off to a hot start, opening the game on a 12-2 spurt that included four points from
Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.). Demos finished the day with eight points and five rebounds in just 17 minutes of action. Jackson built the Mariners led to 15 points at 19-4, knocking down a three-pointer just before the end of the first quarter. The advantage grew to as many as 23 in the second quarter before USMMA went into the locker room with a 35-15 edge.

The Mariners had 11 players take the court in the second half but maintained their 20-point lead throughout the game. USMMA's defense stayed strong all afternoon, forcing 24 total turnovers, including 14 in the second half.

Eight different Mariners registered a point as the team closed out the win 58-33. USMMA dominated the glass, outrebounding Hunter 44-32. This is the Mariners fifth 20+ point victory on the season as they improve to 9-3 overall.
