Box Score

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 12, 2022) – Freshman Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) led all players with 23 points, six assists and five steals, while junior Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) registered a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 17 rebounds Wednesday night at Liebertz Gymnasium, as the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy captured a 62-44, Skyline Conference victory over Sarah Lawrence College.

USMMA (10-3, 7-3 Skyline) also received 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting from senior point guard Julia Dahlke (San Diego, Calif.) in earning its second-straight win. Demos contributed a game-high-tying three blocked shots on the defensive end of the floor, while Jackson and senior Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) corralled nine and eight caroms, respectively to help the host Mariners to both a 51-37 rebounding edge, and 16 second-chance points.

The visiting Gryphons (4-7, 2-6 Skyline) were led by Kendall Haymore, who tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Kumi Tamura tied for the game-high with three 3-point field goals made, en route to a nine-point showing for SLC.

The lead changed hands three times in a first quarter that saw USMMA take a 15-14 lead, before Jackson converted a trifecta, and Dahlke a fastbreak layup, in the final minute of the second frame to send the hosts into the locker room at halftime with a 32-24 advantage.

A 9-2 run midway into the third stanza pushed the Mariners' lead into double digits, as the hosts incrementally upped their advantage to as many as 20 points to secure the triumph.

Head coach Matt Dempsey's USMMA side is back in action at Liebertz Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 15), when it plays host to Pratt Institute in a non-conference contest at noon. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
