FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2022) – Senior
Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) recorded a career-high 22 points and four steals to go along with nine rebounds (seven on the offensive end) to help lead the USMMA women's basketball team past Farmingdale State, 64-54, on Saturday afternoon at the Rams' Lynch Center Gymnasium. With the win, the Mariners improve to 13-3 (9-3 Skyline), while FSC falls to 8-6 (6-5 Skyline) with the loss.
Freshman
Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) added 18 points and seven boards and junior
Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, which tied for the game-high, while also leading all players with six steals. Freshman
Abby Stramski (Jones, Okla.) matched the game-high with five assists and senior
Julia Dahlke (San Diego, Calif.) contributed seven points and six rebounds on the day.
The first quarter was back-and-forth, as the Mariners had a couple of leads early before Farmingdale took it over for the middle part of the frame, getting up to as high as a five-point advantage twice. Merchant Marine finished on a 9-2 run and took the lead for what wound up being for good in the final minute of the first.
The second quarter was close and Mariners maintained a four-point lead, 30-26, into the halftime break. The USMMA advantage hit a game-high 11 points three times late in the third and early in the fourth, but the Rams did battle back to within just four again, 54-50 with just five minutes remaining. Merchant Marine closed out the game on a 10-4 run to secure the victory.
For the Rams, freshman Samantha Muller had a team-best 21 points and freshman Kalena Ricketts scored 15, while bringing down 10 boards that tied Demos for the game-high.
Up next, the Mariners will travel out to Patchogue, N.Y., on Wednesday night, Jan. 26, to take on Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-L.I.
