KINGS POINT, N.Y. (June 2, 2021) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior starting pitcher
Joe Raab (Edwardsburg, Mich.) became just the fourth Mariner in program history to be named an All-American when both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com announced their All-America Teams late this week.
Â
Raab joins former-USMMA greats
Davey May '09 (2009),
Warren Hartman '14 (2014) and
Andrew Spinnenweber '19 (2018) as the only All-Americans in Academy history, and just he and his former teammate Spinnenweber are the only pitchers to receive the national recognition.

The lefty was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Third Team, as well as the Fourth Team by D3Baseball just a day after being named the New York Region Pitcher of the Year and to the All-Region First Team for both outlets. He was also chosen to the NCAA DIII Auburn Regional All-Tournament Team after his performance during the Mariners' memorable run to Championship Sunday at their first-ever NCAA postseason appearance this past weekend.
Â
The 2021 Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Skyline selection pitched to a 6-2 record this season with a career-best 1.47 ERA to go along with 65 strikeouts. Opposing batters hit just .209 off of him this season, which was a career-low.
Â
Throughout his career, Raab has amassed an 18-7 record over 29 appearances with a 2.35 ERA in 188.0 innings pitched and an impressive 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings. He has also tossed one no-hitter and two one-hitters that both came down to the final out.
Â
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) will announce their major national award winners and All-America Teams after the DIII College World Series this weekend.
