KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 10, 2021) – The USMMA baseball team lost a pair of games to St. Joseph's College of Long Island in Skyline Conference action on Saturday at Bartoszek Field, losing the opener 4-0, before dropping the second game by the final of 7-3. The Mariners' record drops to 7-2 (6-2 Skyline), while the Golden Eagles improve to 5-5 (4-4 Skyline).
Game 1 Highlights
- The Mariners struggled at the plate in the first game, registering just three hits against SJC junior Kevin Czeczotka.
- The Golden Eagles got on the board first in the opening inning, added another in the third and the two in back-to-back innings in the sixth and seventh.
- Senior Joe Raab (Edwardsburg, Mich.) pitched another complete game, suffering the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on 11 hits with six strikeouts.
- Merchant Marine got hits from sophomore Joey Zanetti (Richmond, Va.), junior Zac Skov (San Clemente, Calif.) and freshman Tyler Reistetter (Dickinson, Texas).
Game 2 Highlights
- After falling behind 4-0 in the first half-inning, the Mariners answered back with runs in the bottom of the first and second innings. The first coming on a double by senior Colin Baker (Clyde Hill, Wash.) that platted Zanetti, and the second on a double by Zanetti that brought in senior Jack McCann (Newark, Del.).
- The Golden Eagles tacked on two more in the third and didn't look back.
- Reistetter came in in relief and tossed seven innings after senior Joaquin Munoz (Lubbock, Texas) got the start and had a rough first inning. Junior Billy Todd (Gastonia, N.C.) closed out the game in a scoreless top of the ninth.
- Baker had another RBI knock in the bottom of the seventh that scored Zanetti once again.
Up Next
The Mariners were supposed to play a road doubleheader to close out the series tomorrow out at St. Joseph's-Long Island, but the expected inclement weather has changed those plans. The two teams will now meet on Monday, April 12, for a single nine-inning game to finish the series. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
