NEW YORK (Nov. 17, 2021) – The USMMA women's basketball team won its non-conference showdown with Baruch College, 53-48, on Wednesday evening at the Bearcats' ARC Arena. The win improves the Mariners' record to 2-0, while Baruch falls to 1-3 in defeat.

USMMA Notables
- Two players recorded double-doubles for the Mariners – sophomore Bryanne Buchanan-Cummings (Dacula, Ga.) led all players with 16 points and brought down 10 rebounds, while junior Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) had 10 points and 12 boards.
- Freshman Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while also recording four assists, three blocks and three steals.
- Senior Julia Dahlke (San Diego, Calif.) had eight points and led all players with five steals, and sophomore Jalen Douglas (Waldorf, Md.) added six points and seven boards.
- Senior Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) registered a game-high 13 rebounds and rounded out the Merchant Marine scorers with three points.

How It Happened
- The Bearcats' largest lead of the night was six points and it came twice in the second quarter including at 2:59 when they went up 21-15.
- The Mariners fought back to within just one point, 23-22, at halftime.
- Baruch built up a five-point lead after scoring the first two baskets of the third quarter, but play was back-and-forth from then and the two teams traded leads until USMMA started to pull away late in the frame.
- Over the end of the third and beginning of the fourth, the Mariners went on a 16-4 run to take a double-digit lead.
- The Bearcats cut it back down to just three points late, but a layup by Demos with just 35 seconds left closed out the scoring at 53-48.
- The Mariners out-rebounded Baruch, 61-42, and turned 26 offensive rebounds into 15 second-chance points. The visitors also had 30 points in the paint to the Bearcats' 14.

Baruch's Leaders
- Three players scored in double-figures for the Bearcats, as freshman Mia Castillo had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
- Both freshman Leila Delutty and junior Milly Ye scored a team-best 13 points apiece.
