KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2021) – The USMMA women's basketball team defeated visiting Yeshiva University, 72-40, on Wednesday night in their 2021-22 season-opener. The Maccabees (1-1, 0-1 Skyline) scored the first basket of the game, but the Mariners (1-0, 1-0 Skyline) responded with eight-straight and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.

USMMA Notables
- Freshman Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) scored a game-high 21 points in her collegiate debut and came up just two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight boards. She also had three steals, including one in the second half that led straight to a fast-break layup.
- Senior Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) had the Mariners' other double-digit scoring performance with 12 points (3-of-7 with six free throws made.)
- Junior Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) brought down 15 rebounds to lead all players on the night and was just one point shy of a double-double, as she drained nine. Also chipping in with nine points was sophomore Bryanne Buchanan-Cummings (Dacula, Ga.).
- Senior Julia Dahlke (San Diego, Calif.) had five points and tied for the game-high with freshman Kaira Winston (Chesterfield, Va.) with three assists.
How It Happened
- After Merchant Marine got up by six in the first five-plus minutes of the first quarter, Yeshiva fought back to within just one point, 8-7, at 4:05. From there, though, the Mariners went on an 11-0 run to take a 19-7 advantage.
- The USMMA lead hit a first-half high of 19 points at 7:17 of the second, and the Mariners would go on to take a 17-point lead into the locker room at halftime, 40-23.
- It was much of the same in the second half, as the advantage quickly ballooned up to 30 points late in the third after a 17-4 run to start the quarter, and they never looked back.
Inside The Numbers
- The Maccabees had a better shooting performance from the field on the night, but they took just 46 shots (making 15 for 32.6%). The Mariners had 68 attempts and made 22 (32.4%).
- Merchant Marine dominated second-chance points, 20-2, as well as points off of turnovers, 32-9.
- The Mariners forced 26 Yeshiva turnovers with 14 steals, Demos led the way with four.
Yeshiva's Leaders
- Two players scored in double-figures for the Maccabees – sophomore Shai Rahamim had a team-best 12 points, while junior Yuval Nitzan added 11. Nitzan also had three steals on the night.
- Junior Daniella Rothman brought down a team-high seven rebounds.

- The Mariners are back in action on Wednesday night, Nov. 17, when they hit the road for a non-conference game at Baruch College in Manhattan.
