MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 6, 2026) - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team tied FDU-Florham 1-1 on the road Sunday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field. The Mariners' record moved to 1-1-2, while the Devils went to 0-0-2 on the season.

The Blue and Gray came out firing in the opening half, generating a pair of early opportunities from junior Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich.). Robertson put his first attempt on target in the ninth minute and another in the 11th minute, but FDU-Florham goalkeeper Michael Battista turned away both shots to keep the game scoreless.
The Mariners continued to apply pressure later in the half, but junior Andrew Campbell (Severna Park, Md.) was denied again by Battista in the 34th minute, keeping the game scoreless heading into halftime. USMMA controlled the offensive pace throughout the opening 45 minutes, outshooting FDU-Florham 11-3.
The Devils broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute when Karan Chauhan found the back of the net off an assist from Branden Ferreira to give FDU-Florham a 1-0 advantage. Merchant Marine responded just over three minutes later as junior Robert Derwin (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored in the 64th minute to even the game at 1-1.
FDU-Florham looked to regain the lead in the 83rd minute, but senior goalkeeper James Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.) made a huge save on an attempt from Chauhan to keep the game tied. USMMA had a late opportunity to grab the game-winner in the 85th minute, but Battista turned aside Robertson's blast as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Mariners outshot the Devils 16-10 overall in the match and held the edge in corners 7-5.
Battista made four saves for the Devils, and Castoro stopped two shots for the Mariners.
The Mariners are back on the pitch again on Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they host John Jay at 7 p.m. at Raymond J. Bartoszek Field.
