Mariners Notch Third-Straight Shutout With 7-0 Win Over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2026) – Junior Robert Derwin (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick and an assist as the USMMA men's soccer team rolled past St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 7-0, in Skyline Conference action Friday evening at Bartoszek Field. The Mariners improved to 4-2-4 overall (3-0-1 Skyline) with their third straight shutout, while the Bears fell to 1-4-2 (0-3-0 Skyline).
 
Game Link Derwin opened the scoring in the 29th minute off assists from senior Andrew Jung (Fairfax, Va.) and junior Cal Lutz (South Pasadena, Calif.) before junior Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich.) doubled the advantage in the 41st minute following a feed from sophomore Charlie Safe (Boise, Idaho) to send Merchant Marine into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
 
The Mariners broke the game open after the break. Derwin scored his second goal in the 49th minute off assists from Robertson and sophomore Ethan Schuette (Gig Harbor, Wash.), before Lutz made it 4-0 in the 61st minute off a Derwin assist. Just 41 seconds later, Robertson set up Derwin for his third goal of the night and eighth of the season.
 
A pair of Mariners scored their first collegiate goals late in the contest, as freshman Drew Coyne (Harrington, N.J.) found the back of the net in the 72nd minute before sophomore Tai Innerarity (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) capped the scoring with just 17 seconds remaining.
 
Merchant Marine finished with a 22-2 advantage in shots and a 16-2 edge in shots on goal. Derwin led the way with three goals and an assist, while Robertson finished with a goal and two assists and Lutz added a goal and an assist.
 
Seniors Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.) and James Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.) split the game in goal and each made one save to combine for the clean sheet.
 
The Mariners return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference matchup at 6 p.m.
