YONKERS, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2026) – Freshman Hailey Catolico (Apex, N.C.) scored her second goal of the season to give the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team a first-half lead, but Sarah Lawrence answered in the second half as the Mariners played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon at Fleming Field. USMMA moved to 0-0-4 overall (0-0-2 Skyline), while the Gryphons moved to 2-0-3 (1-0-1 Skyline).

The Mariners generated the first opportunities of the contest as junior Lauren Enterline (Harrisburg, Pa.) had an attempt stopped by Sarah Lawrence goalkeeper Bella Vaca in the 16th minute. Catolico and sophomore Stella Newman (Columbus, Ohio) followed with shots less than a minute apart before Catolico broke through in the 21st minute to give USMMA a 1-0 advantage.
 
Sarah Lawrence nearly answered late in the opening half. Junior keeper Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) denied Stella Sturgill in the 36th minute before Katey Beaver hit the woodwork in the 41st. Enterline then put another attempt on net in the 45th minute, but Vaca made the save to send the Mariners into halftime with the 1-0 lead.
 
The Gryphons applied heavy pressure after the break. Fields stopped Sturgill in the 47th and 65th minutes, while the Mariners also recorded a team save on another Sturgill attempt in the 66th. Sarah Lawrence finally broke through in the 72nd minute when Beaver scored off a feed from Whitney Erickson to even the game at 1-1.
 
Sarah Lawrence continued to push following the equalizer, but Fields turned aside attempts from Isabel Demski and Madeline Moor in the 81st and 84th minutes. The Gryphons generated the final opportunity of the afternoon in the 88th minute, but Sturgill's shot went wide as the teams settled for the draw.
 
Sarah Lawrence finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots, including a 13-1 edge in the second half, and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Gryphons put seven shots on goal, while USMMA finished with three.
 
Fields made five saves for the Mariners, while Vaca recorded two stops for Sarah Lawrence.
 
Up next, the Mariners will finally play their home-opener this coming Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they host Skyline foe St. Joseph's-Long Island. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bartoszek Field.
