KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 8, 2025) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy eighth-year head men's soccer coach Drew McCarthy announced the hiring of Andrew Laurenzano to his staff ahead of the 2026 season. Laurenzano officially came on board on Monday, April 6.

The Queens-native Laurenzano joins the Mariners after serving as the first assistant and recruiting coordinator at fellow Skyline Conference institution the University of Mount Saint Vincent, where he helped guide the program to a 14-1-2 record this past 2025 season. He played an integral role in recruiting, training session design, match preparation, and video analysis, while also overseeing the program's academic support initiatives for student-athletes.

Prior to his time at Mount Saint Vincent, Laurenzano was a member of the coaching staff at another Skyline Conference school, SUNY Maritime College in 2024. During his tenure, the Privateers posted a 7-5-5 record. He contributed across multiple areas, including practice organization, film sessions, recruiting, and player development.

"We are beyond excited to welcome Coach Laurenzano to the Academy. We are confident his experience as a collegiate athlete and college coach will make an immediate impact on our soccer program and Midshipmen," said McCarthy. "Additionally, Andrew's experience recruiting and coaching on the club level will help us identify future Mariners to help propel the program to the next level. Most importantly, Andrew's character and professionalism will be instrumental in producing leaders of exemplary character to serve the nation."

Laurenzano also brings experience from the club level, serving as a coach within Downtown United Soccer Club's MLS NEXT program. His background includes additional coaching experience with Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club, where he worked with youth players across multiple age groups.

As a player, Laurenzano competed at the Catholic University of America, appearing in 52 career matches with 33 starts in the midfield. He was a member of the 2019 Landmark Conference Championship team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament and earned Academic Honor Roll recognition during his career.

"I am extremely grateful and honored to be selected as the new Assistant Coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy," commented Laurenzano. I want to thank our Head Coach, Drew McCarthy, our Athletic Director, Kristofer Schnatz, and the entire search committee for this extraordinary opportunity. I am thrilled to be joining such a historic program and look forward to being a part of the success that lies ahead for it."

Laurenzano graduated from Catholic University with a degree in finance and holds U.S. Soccer Grassroots coaching licenses.
