Baseball Drops Twin-Bill To Farmingdale State At Home

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 19, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team dropped a pair of games to Farmingdale State in Skyline Conference action on Sunday evening at Bartoszek Field, losing the opener 3-2 before dropping the second game by the final of 7-6. The Mariners' record drops to 17-9 (9-3 Skyline), while the Rams improve to 13-9 (6-4 Skyline).

Game 1 Highlights

  • Farmingdale State struck first in the third inning on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Rams added to their advantage in the fourth inning with another RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • The Mariners responded in the bottom of the fourth inning, tying the game at 2-2 as senior Charles Cahalan (Overland Park, Kan.) and freshman Jason Brown (Marlton, N.J.) added RBI groundouts to even the score.
  • Farmingdale regained the lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single to make it 3-2, which would prove to be the winning run, giving them the victory in game one.
  • Junior Christian Gamez (Kent Island, Md.) recorded the Mariners' only hit in the contest.
  • Cahalan and Brown each drove in a run for the Blue and Gray.
  • Junior Landon Troutt (Fairfield, Calif.) and sophomore Luke Kruer (Sellersburg, Ind.) both scored a run.
  • Sophomore Louis Inserra (Coplay, Pa.) went 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out two. Freshman Levi Reale (Woodbridge, Va.) pitched a scoreless sixth inning, and sophomore Travis Campbell (Alba, Texas) tossed a scoreless seventh with one strikeout.

  • Farmingdale State struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on an error and an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Kings Point responded immediately in the bottom of the first as Gamez delivered an RBI single to even the score at 1-1.
  • The Rams regained control in the third inning, plating two runs on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-1 advantage.
  • Merchant Marine cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when freshman Axel Prechel (Corvallis, Ore.) scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-2.
  • Farmingdale extended its lead in the seventh inning with a two-run home run, pushing the advantage to 5-2, before adding two more runs in the eighth to make it 7-2.
  • The Blue and Gray mounted a late rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. Freshman Ryan Melton (Newnan, Ga.) sparked the comeback with an RBI triple, followed by freshman Thomas Byrne (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) adding an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-4.
  • Sophomore Braden Vazquez (Missouri City, Texas) continued the rally with a two-run single to bring the Mariners within one at 7-6.
  • Despite the late push, the Rams held off the Mariners for a 7-6 win.
  • The Mariners posted their 13th double-digit hitting performance of the season and had two players record multi-hit games, as Vazquez and Brown each tallied two hits.
  • Vazquez led KP with two RBIs, while Gamez, Melton, and Byrne each drove in one.
  • Prechel led Merchant Marine with two runs scored, while Brown, Kruer, Melton, and Byrne all crossed the plate once.
  • Senior Eddie Lippert (Deer Park, N.Y.) went five innings, allowing two runs and striking out three. Reale tossed one scoreless inning with a strikeout, while senior Caden Pierce (Marietta, Ga.) pitched a scoreless ninth with one strikeout.
  • Robert Malvino earned the win for Farmingdale State, going 2.2 innings, allowing one run and striking out three, while Derek Watts recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning and one strikeout.
