Mariners Upend Manhattanville At Home, 18-3, On Tuesday Night

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 14, 2026) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team earned a decisive Skyline Conference victory on Tuesday night, cruising past Manhattanville, 18-3, at Brooks Stadium. The Mariners dominated from the opening whistle, building a commanding first-half lead before maintaining control throughout the second half. With the win, Merchant Marine improves to 7-5 overall (3-1 Skyline), while Manhattanville falls to 4-7 (2-2 Skyline).

Game Links Senior William Badeer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Landon Locke (Midlothian, Va.) led the Mariners with six points apiece, as Badeer netted five goals and added an assist, while Locke dished out a career-high five assists and scored once. Senior Owen Barcus (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore Dylan Sullivan (Warwick, N.Y.) each added five points, with Barcus totaling three goals and two assists and Sullivan recording three goals and two helpers. Freshman Nathan Mangus (Sugar Land, Texas) contributed four points on three goals and one assist, while several others found the back of the net in a balanced offensive effort.

Defensively, the Mariners controlled possession throughout, holding a dominant 48-11 advantage in ground balls while forcing 25 turnovers. Sophomore Tucker Kuhn (Towson, Md.) anchored the effort at the face-off X, winning 15-of-17 draws and collecting a game-high nine ground balls. Senior Michael Hofstetter (Deer Park, N.Y.) added five GBs, while multiple Mariners contributed to a well-rounded defensive performance. In goal, junior Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) earned the win with two saves in the first half, while senior Tucker Swinerton (Weston, Fla.) and sophomore Jack Stehlik (Hood River, Ore.) combined for three saves in relief and junior Joseph Montazella (Lyme, Conn.) closed the game out in the final four-plus minutes.

The Mariners wasted little time taking control in the opening quarter, scoring six times while holding Manhattanville to just one shot. Badeer and Mangus got the offense started, and USMMA capitalized on extra-man opportunities with back-to-back man-up goals to extend the early lead. The momentum carried into the second quarter as the Mariners poured in seven more goals, building a commanding 13-2 advantage at halftime.

KP maintained control after the break, outscoring the Valiants 5-1 over the final two quarters while continuing to dictate possession and limit scoring chances.

Manhattanville was led offensively by Frank Tallerico, who recorded a goal and an assist, while Anthony Cozza and Michael Karabinchak also scored. Chris Mercado handled the majority of the face-offs, and goalkeeper Joe Ulzheimer made 20 saves in the loss.

The Mariners return to action this Saturday, April 18, when they host Purchase on Senior Day at Brooks Stadium. Opening face-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
