KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 24, 2026) – The USMMA tennis team earned a 7-0 Skyline Conference victory over Mount St. Mary in its home opener on Tuesday afternoon at the Brooks Stadium Courts. The Mariners improved to 2-0 overall (2-0 Skyline), while the Knights fell to 3-6 (1-2 Skyline).

Merchant Marine secured the doubles point by winning two of the three flights. The top pairing of sophomores Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) and Aaron Zhao (Temple City, Calif.) posted a 6-0 win at #1, while freshmen Travis Boyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Travis Filer (Conroe, Texas) earned a 6-3 victory at #3.
 
Boyd opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6, before Zhao followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #2. Freshman Zach Diep (Oxnard, Calif.) clinched the team win when he produced a 6-3, 6-4 decision at #4 to make it 4-0.
 
Filer secured a three-set win at #5, taking the opening set 7-5 before dropping the second set, 6-1, and closing out the match with a 6-3 win in the third. Freshman Keegan Dutton (Temple, Texas) earned a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory at #3, and Buquel completed the sweep with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win at the top singles flight.
 
The Mariners return to action on Thursday, March 26, when they travel to the USTA National Tennis Center to take on non-conference foe Baruch College. First serve of doubles action is set for 3:30 p.m. (ET).
