KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 14, 2026) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team saw its last-second opportunity to tie the game down low stuffed by Kean's goalie, as the Mariners lost to the visiting Cougars, 13-12, on Saturday at Brooks Stadium. The loss drops Merchant Marine to 3-3 on the season, while Kean improves to 5-3 with the victory.

The Mariners had four players record multiple points in the contest. Seniors
William Badeer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) andÂ
Owen Barcus (Annapolis, Md.) recorded six points each - Badeer on five goals and one assists and Barcus with four goals and two helpers. Senior
Jack DeTommaso (Massapequa, N.Y.) added five points on a goal and four assists, and freshman
Dylan Sullivan (Warwick, N.Y.) contributed two goals.
For DeTommaso, the five-point effort brought him to 100 points for his career.
Defensively, juniorÂ
Ryan Thorne (Selden, N.Y.) collected four ground balls, while sophomore
Tucker Kuhn (Towson, Md.) won 10 face-offs and scooped up a team-high seven ground balls. Junior goalie
Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) made 12 saves in goal for USMMA.

The Mariners struck first midway through the opening quarter when Badeer finished an assist from Barcus to open the scoring. After Kean answered to tie the game, Barcus and Badeer scored again during a quick Mariners push that gave Kings Point a 3-1 advantage. The Cougars responded with a late pair of goals to close the period, evening the contest at 3-3 heading into the second quarter.

The back-and-forth continued in the second. Kean briefly took the lead early before the Mariners responded with consecutive tallies from Badeer and Sullivan to move ahead again. The teams traded goals down the stretch of the half before DeTommaso converted off a feed from sophomore
William Schipfer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to give USMMA a narrow 6-5 edge at the break.

Kings Point pushed the lead to two early in the third quarter when Badeer scored again, but Kean responded with a quick two-goal run to level the score at 7-7. Badeer added another goal late in the period to restore the Mariners' advantage, sending USMMA into the final quarter with an 8-7 lead.

The fourth quarter featured the game's biggest swings. Kean scored three straight goals to take a 10-8 lead before Barcus answered to pull the Mariners back within one. After a Cougar man-up goal and another quick tally pushed the margin to 11-9, USMMA rallied with back-to-back extra-man goals from Sullivan and Barcus to tie the game at 11-11 with just under four minutes remaining.

Kean regained the lead on a goal with 1:54 left and added another seconds later to make it 13-11 before Barcus scored once more with under a minute to play. The Mariners generated one final chance in the closing seconds, but the Cougars were able to make the save, secure possession and run out the clock.

The Cougars finished with advantages in shots (50-29), shots on goal (25-22), face-offs (19-10), and ground balls (34-29). The Mariners were efficient on extra-man opportunities, converting two of their five chances, while the Cougars finished 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

Aarin Arbore led Kean offensively, totaling five points on three goals and two assists, while Miguel Lontok added four goals. Jacob Dvoor chipped in four points behind two goals and two assists. At the faceoff X, Christian Updale won 15-of-22 draws and picked up a game-high 12 ground balls. In goal, Nick Paterno and John Westbrook split time and combined for 10 saves in the victory.

USMMA returns to action next Saturday, March 21, when the Mariners travel to face non-conference opponent Western New England beginning at 1 p.m. at WNEU's Golden Bears Stadium.
