Women’s Basketball Storms Past Yeshiva, 76–22, On The Road

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team earned a 76–22 victory over Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon at Baruch's ARC Arena in Skyline Conference play. The Mariners improved to 16–4 overall (13–2 Skyline), while the Maccabees dropped to 1–18 overall (0–14 Skyline).

Sophomore Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Md.) led the Blue and Gray with her second straight double-double, scoring a game-high 21 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Junior Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) posted her second consecutive double-double as well, finishing with 12 points and a game-best 12 rebounds. Senior Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) added 12 points and tied for the game-best with four assists alongside Barton and freshman Jaden Lodice (Littleton, Colo.).

Barton and Grasseler also turned away a game-high two shots apiece on the defensive end, while freshman Tatum Carney (Fairfax, Va.) collected a career-high four steals.

USMMA finished the afternoon shooting 31-of-67 (46.3%) from the field and 6-of-17 (35.3%) from three-point range. The Mariners controlled the glass throughout, outrebounding Yeshiva 45–29 while scoring 24 points off of 27 Maccabees turnovers. Yeshiva was held to 8-of-60 (13.3%) shooting overall and 3-of-27 (11.1%) from beyond the arc.

Merchant Marine held Yeshiva to single digits in all four quarters on the afternoon. After Barton opened the scoring at the free-throw line, Ramsden sparked a run with back-to-back finishes at 7:59 and 7:36, giving USMMA a 5–3 edge. The Blue and Gray forced multiple turnovers over the next stretch, capitalizing with baskets from Ramsden, sophomore Breanna Sommers (Casa Grande, Ariz.), and Grasseler to extend the lead to 12–3. The visitors continued to apply pressure late in the quarter. Grasseler scored in the paint at 3:32, senior Cevyn Crutcher (Huntsville, Ala.) followed with a layup at 2:58, and Barton and Carney closed the frame with a combined 10 points over the final two minutes. The Mariners carried a commanding 27–6 advantage into the second quarter.

The visitors remained in control in the second period, opening with a Carney layup and free throws from Crutcher to stretch the margin to 31–6. Grasseler scored twice in the paint at 6:18 and 6:00, and Barton converted a three-point play in transition at 5:29 as the lead ballooned past 30, 38-8. Ramsden and Sommers added late jumpers, and Barton finished inside at 3:54 to push the advantage to 42–8. USMMA went into halftime firmly in command, leading 46–14.

KP held Yeshiva to eight total points in the final quarter, rolling the entire second half en route to a 76-22 victory.

Eliana Leitner led Yeshiva with eight points, while Sophia Lurie added five.

Merchant Marine hits the hardwood for a big Skyline Conference matchup next Wednesday, Feb. 4, against Mount St. Mary at 5 p.m. at Liebertz Gymnasium.
