Women’s Soccer Battles Mount St. Mary To 1-1 Road Draw

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2026) – Senior Faith Sammons (Aubrey, Texas) scored late in the first half to give the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team the lead, but Mount St. Mary answered after the break as the Mariners battled the Knights to a 1-1 Skyline Conference draw on Tuesday night at Kaplan Field. USMMA moved to 4-0-5 overall (4-0-3 Skyline), while Mount St. Mary moved to 6-4-1 (3-1-1 Skyline).

Game Link Mount St. Mary generated the first opportunity less than a minute into the contest, but junior Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) turned aside an attempt from Kaitlyn Shotter. Fields made three more saves during the opening half before the Mariners broke through in the 43rd minute. Sammons found the back of the net off a feed from junior Lauren Enterline (Harrisburg, Pa.) to give USMMA a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Knights answered in the 59th minute when Grace Morra scored off an assist from Isabella Milburn to even the game at 1-1. Mount St. Mary nearly took the lead in the 65th minute when Shotter struck the woodwork, but Fields denied Milburn moments later to keep the contest tied.

Fields came up with another stop on Morra in the 73rd minute, and neither side was able to find the go-ahead goal over the final 17 minutes.

Mount St. Mary finished with a 14-7 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on goal, while USMMA finished with four shots on target. The Mariners held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Fields finished with six saves for the Mariners, while Julianna Ewashko made three stops for the Knights.

The Mariners return to action on Sunday, Oct. 11, when they take on Yeshiva at 3 p.m. at FDU's Macron Stadium in Teaneck, N.J.
