KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2026) – The USMMA wrestling team lost at home on Wednesday night to visiting Centennial Conference foe Ursinus College, 30-13, inside the Liebertz Gymnasium. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 6-5 overall (0-1 Centennial), while the Bears improve to 7-2 (1-0 Centennial) with the victory.

Prior to the meet, the Mariners paid tribute to their five graduating seniors with a special Senior Night ceremony honoring Ivan Corral (Oak Forest, Ill.), Corey Haney (Medina, Ohio), Caleb Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y.), Joe Wasilewski (Stafford, Va.) and Wesley Wydick (Utica, Ohio).
 
On the mat, the match was pretty even through the first six bouts, with the Bears pulling out ahead 5-0 on a tech fall at 125, followed by a pin by Wydick just under a minute into his match at 133 to put the Mariners ahead 6-5. Ursinus picked up a major decision at 141 to go back ahead, 9-6, but a 6-3 decision victory by freshman Aidan Krass (Gonzales, La.) at 149 evened the score up at 9-9.
 
After the Bears earned a decision of their own at 165, freshman Viviano Gutierrez (La Habra, Calif.) earned a major decision at 165 to put Merchant Marine ahead, 13-12.
 
However, the visitors finished with four-straight wins to claim the match victory, even though the 184 and 197 matches were extremely close, 184 going to a sudden-victory period and 197 only decided by two points.
 
The Mariners return to action on Saturday, Jan. 31, when they travel to McDaniel in Westminster, Md., to face Gettysburg at 12-noon and the host Green Terror at 2 p.m. in the first of two-straight weekends of Centennial Duals.
