KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team rolled to a decisive 7-0 non-conference victory over Hunter College on Saturday morning at Brooks Stadium. The victory improves the Mariners record to 2-1-1, while the Hawks drop to 0-2-1.

Five different Mariners scored in the match, highlighted by sophomore Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich), who recorded his second consecutive hat trick.
Sophomore Robert Derwin (East Meadow, N.Y.) got the scoring started in the 22nd minute, followed by a marker from Robertson in the 25th minute off an assist from sophomore Andrew Campbell (Severna Park, Md.) to stretch the advantage to 2-0. Senior John Germain (Cornwall, N.Y.) booted a beautiful left-footed blast on a free kick four minutes later in the 29th minute to extend the lead 3-0, giving USMMA full control heading into halftime.
Merchant Marine kept the pedal to the metal offensively in the second half with four more tallies after the break. Senior Michael Hofstetter (Deer Park, N.Y.) cashed in the 47th minute on a feed from classmate Jack Ouellette (Alexandria, Va.). Robertson then scored back-to-back goals 48 seconds apart in the 64th minute from Cal Lutz (Charlotte, N.C.) and Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) to make it 6-0. Junior Cruz McDermott (Palatine, Ill.) finished off the scoring in the 82nd minute on a nice setup from freshman Ethan Schuette (Gig Harbor, Wash).
Overall, USMMA outshot Hunter 24-6, including a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.) and classmate James Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.) split time in net, combining for the shutout. Howell stopped a pair of shots, and Castoro turned away one.
Merchant Marine returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they host #2 Connecticut College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference matchup at Bartoszek Field.
