Women's Soccer Closes Out Road Trip With Loss At Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Aug. 31, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 4-0, on Sunday at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex at Foster Field. USMMA drops to 0-2, while the Marlins improve to 2-0.

The Mariners were led defensively by sophomore Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.), who made four first-half saves. Freshman Charli Warren (Atlanta, Ga.) added three saves in the second half, and Kait Meyer (Lehi, Utah) contributed one.
 
Merchant Marine saw shots  on goal from senior Emma Cox (Huntingtown, Md.), juniors Faith Sammons (Aubrey, Texas) and Alexx Forman (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Kennedy Crovo (Lexington, Ky.).
 
Virginia Wesleyan scored twice in the opening half, beginning with Zyon Ferguson's goal in the 38th minute. Alaina Alston doubled the Marlin's advantage with a marker in the 44th minute off an assist from Stephanie Koblish. The hosts added two more goals after the break as Alexis Manfredi scored in the 51st minute from an assist by Kaylyn Seitz, and Autumn Horst capped the scoring in the 61st minute.
 
USMMA returns to action for their home opener against WestConn on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
