KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 22, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team wasted no time, burying eight first quarter goals to take down visiting Mt. St. Vincent Dolphins by the final of 23-7 on Tuesday night at Tomb Field. With the win, USMMA is now 8-5 (5-1 Skyline), and UMSV falls to 5-9 (2-4 Skyline).

Owen Behr (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) paced the KP attack with six goals and an assist, while senior
Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.) had a hat-trick and classmate
Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) scored twice and dished out four assists.

Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) got the start in the cage and made four saves. Junior
Tucker Swinerton (Weston, Fla.) and sophomore
Joseph Montazella (Lyme, Conn.) played in the third and fourth quarters, with Swinerton making three stops and Montazella finishing with one.

Behr put Kings Point in the drivers' seat when he found the back of the net less than 60 seconds into the first quarter. He and Badeer each scored another goal before the 10 minute mark, as the Mariners pulled in front 3-0.

USMMA kept the pressure on with a tally from Emerick 90 seconds later, followed by the hat-trick goal from Behr and one more from Emerick to make it 6-0. Emerick picked up a third goal himself before the end of the first, as KP stormed out to an 8-0 advantage.

Behr's fourth goal made it 9-0 quickly into the second quarter, before the scoring slowed down for Merchant Marine. UMSV got on the board with two goals in 20 seconds around the eight-minute mark of the second, but the Mariners finished strong and went into halftime with a 13-3 lead.

After the intermission, USMMA stayed hot in the offensive zone. The Mariners scored six times in the third period, and four more times in the fourth, en route to a dominant 23-7 victory.

In the face-off X, senior
Chris Neuman (South Huntington, N.Y.) won a team-best six draws, while also leading the Mariners with six ground balls. He also found the back of the net in the second half. Sophomore defensemen
Ryan Thorne (Selden, N.Y.) scooped up five GBs in the win.

Merchant Marine hits the road for their next contest, which marks the end of the regular season. Kings Point takes on Purchase this Saturday, April 26, at 12-noon.
