Seniors Lead Mariners Past Clark Big, 18-1, On Saturday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 8, 2025) – The USMMA women's lacrosse team saw its two seniors combine for 14 points, as the Mariners took care of business over visiting Clark University, 18-1, on Saturday at Brooks Stadium. The victory improved the Mariners' record to 1-1, while the Cougars fell to 2-2 in defeat.
 
Game Link Seniors Gianna Russo (Wake Forest, N.C.) and Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) both recorded seven points apiece, with Russo tying her career-high with six goals to go along with one assists and Jablonowski scoring four times and dishing out three helpers.
 
Sophomore Grace Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa.) contributed four goals and two assists on the afternoon, while also gobbling up a game-high six ground balls and securing four draw controls. Classmate Leslie Wysong (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) rounded out the Mariners with multi-point games, as she scored once and had one assist.
 
Three freshmen found the back of the net for the first collegiate goals - Reese Ripley (Denver, Colo.), Amber Fields (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Lana Hayes (Toms River, N.J.). Ripley also led all players on the afternoon with five draw controls and tied for the team-best with two caused turnovers with Wysong and freshman Juliet Trouse (Riverdale, N.J.).
 
In goal, junior Karianna Eagle (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) made one save to record the victory.
 
The Mariners raced out to a 7-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and after the first three goals of the second in the opening five minutes, the game clock did not stop due to a 10-goal lead nearly the remainder of the afternoon.
 
Clark senior Erin Lucas recorded the lone tally for the Cougars, which was the first goal of the second half.
 
Merchant Marine returns to action on Monday, March 10, with a trip up to Wellesley College. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Blue's Butler Stadium.
