Men’s Basketball Falls To Top-Seed Farmingdale State In Skyline Quarterfinals

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2025) – The eighth-seeded USMMA men's basketball team lost in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Skyline Tournament on Tuesday night to the top-seed Farmingdale State Rams, 87-64, at FSC's Lynch Sports Center. The Mariners' record falls to 10-16, while the Rams improve to 17-9 and they move on to host SUNY Maritime in the semifinals on Thursday.

Game Links Senior Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) recorded his 11th double-double of the season with a team-high 24 points and a game-best 11 rebounds. Classmate Isaac Vencel (Bloomington, Ind.) added 17 points, six boards and five steals, while junior Clark Castleberry (Reston, Va.) contributed 13 points and eight rebounds.

Farmingdale hit nearly half of the shots it put up on the night (29-for-59), while holding the Mariners to just 37.7% shooting (26-for-69). The Rams also cashed in on 24 points off of turnovers and held a 16-8 advantage in fast break points.

Merchant Marine's only leads of the game came early, as the visitors raced out to a 4-1 lead in the opening three-plus minutes. However, a 15-4 run by FSC that included three 3-pointers over the next three minutes made it an eight-point game in favor of the Rams.

The Mariners fought back to within just one point at 9:18 when a layup by Vencel made it 21-20, but Farmingdale used a 22-4 run to take its largest lead of the game thus far, 43-24, at 2:36. USMMA scored the final five points of the half and trailed 43-29 at halftime.

The Rams' lead did not fall under double-digits the entirety of the second half, as the hosts were able to cruise to the 87-64 victory.

FSC was led by junior Michael Notias, who drained a game-high 29 points. Two other players scored in double-figures for the Rams, as junior Robbie Siechen chipped in with 15 points off the bench and classmate Sean Conroy added 11. Conroy and sophomore Liam Buckley both tied for the team-high with seven rebounds apiece and senior Jevon Santos led all players on the night with eight assists and six steals.
