KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 2, 2025) – The USMMA men's basketball team lost its home Skyline Conference showdown with Yeshiva on Sunday afternoon, 92-70, at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The setback drops the Mariners' record to 7-12 (3-7 Skyline), while the Maccabees improve to 11-8 (8-2 Skyline) with the victory.

Isaac Vencel (Bloomington, Ind.) led the way with 22 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Classmate
Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) picked up his team-leading eighth double-double of the year with 19 points and a game-high 11 boards and freshman
Max Koeppl (Plano, Texas) added 10 points.
Merchant Marine led by five points, 16-11, just six minutes into the game, however the Maccabees would go on to hold the Mariners to just one field goal over the next eight-plus minutes while the visitors build up a double-digit advantage.
The Macs' lead did not fall back below 10 points the remainder of the afternoon, even though USMMA was able to fight back to within that many on a few occasions, including with just 6:29 remaining in the game.
Yeshiva was led by junior Zevi Samet, who drained a game-high 33 points. Three other Maccabees were in double-figures for scoring as sophomore Luke Cronin had 20 points, classmate Yoav Oselka contributed 17 and senior Effy Freundlich chipped in with 15.
Up next for the Mariners is a road Skyline Conference tilt up at Purchase College on Wednesday night, Feb. 5, beginning at 7 p.m.
