Volleyball Clinches #2 Seed With Road Win At Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team closed out Skyline Conference play in style on Wednesday night, defeating Purchase College, 3-1 (25-11, 25-10, 20-25, 25-15), on the road to clinch the #2 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament. With the victory, the Mariners improved to 15-9 overall and 9-2 in conference action.
 
Match Link Sophomore Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) paced USMMA with 11 kills, three aces, 11 digs and two blocks for a well-rounded performance, while freshman Carly Soboloski (Peoria, Ariz.) added nine kills on .241 hitting with 11 digs, four aces and two blocks. Junior Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas) hit .400 with eight kills, and sophomore Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) was nearly unstoppable in the middle, recording seven kills on a .778 clip to go with five aces and six total blocks.
 
Sophomore Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added six kills and five block assists, and freshman setter Emma Borlie (Baltimore, Md.) directed the offense with 20 assists, three aces and eight digs. Junior Alexa Tipps (Los Angeles, Calif.) handed out 16 assists and chipped in a service ace, while senior libero Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) anchored the back row with a team-high 12 digs and four assists.
 
The Mariners dominated the first two sets with efficient hitting and aggressive serving, posting .448 and .435 percentages to take a 2-0 match lead. After the Panthers fought back to snatch the third set, USMMA reasserted control in the fourth. Mayer sparked the Mariners with four straight service aces to open the frame, and Douglas and Stillinger combined for eight kills down the stretch to seal the road victory and lock up the No. 2 seed for the Skyline playoffs.
 
USMMA returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 8, at a tri-match hosted by Vassar College, taking on the host Brewers at 11 a.m. before facing Hunter College at 1 p.m.
