FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2025) – The USMMA women's basketball team held off Skyline Conference opponent Farmingdale State's late rally to claim a 56-53 road victory on Tuesday night at the Rams' Lynch Sports Center Gymnasium. The Mariners improve to 4-1 (3-0 Skyline) with the win, while FSC falls to 2-3 (1-2 Skyline) in defeat.

Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Md.) filled out the stat sheet with another double-double, leading all players with 22 points and 17 rebounds to go along with five assists, three blocks and three steals. Junior
Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) drained 19 points and brought down seven boards and freshman
Jaden Lodice (Littleton, Colo.) registered seven points and seven rebounds, while also tying for the game-high with four steals. Two other players rounded out the Mariners' scorers, as senior

Breanna Sommers (Casa Grande, Ariz.) added two.
Merchant Marine used a steady defensive effort to overcome a slow start and edge in front during the opening quarter. Grasseler sparked the early push with seven points in the period, while Lodice added a late layup to help the Mariners stay in front despite several traded baskets. Kings Point closed the quarter with a 13-12 lead after forcing multiple turnovers and converting eight points in the paint.
USMMA gradually took control in the second quarter by tightening its defense and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities. Grasseler and Barton paced the offense with key baskets during an 8-2 stretch that broke a 14-14 tie, while Ramsden and Sommers helped extend possessions with offensive rebounds. The Mariners closed the half on another push, taking a 30-19 lead into the break after holding Farmingdale State to just five field goals in the period.
Merchant Marine opened the third quarter with a steady offensive rhythm, using layups from Barton, Grasseler and Lodice to push the margin to double digits. Ramsden added another basket as the Mariners continued to score inside, while Sommers and Barton helped limit second-chance opportunities on the defensive end. FSC closed the gap slightly in the final minutes, but Kings Point maintained control and carried a 47-35 lead into the fourth.
Farmingdale State made a late push in the fourth quarter, trimming a once-12-point deficit down to three in the closing seconds. Barton and Ramsden provided key baskets for Merchant Marine, while the Mariners came up with just enough defensive stops to keep the Rams from completing the comeback. Kings Point ultimately held on for the victory, securing the 56-53 road win after contesting a final three-point attempt in the closing moments.
The Mariners converted 21 offensive rebounds into 15 second-chance points. They also controlled the interior with a 38-16 advantage in points in the paint and generated 16 points off turnovers, key areas that helped secure the narrow road win.
Farmingdale State was led by Emily Tsiforas, who scored a team-best 14 points, while Samyah Allen added 12 and Alexandria Walbroehl recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Shyann Parker also pulled down 10 boards on the night to go along with a team-high four assists.
Up next, the Mariners will play on day one of Medgar Evers' Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament in Brooklyn this Saturday, Nov. 29, against the host Cougars. Tip-off is scheduled for 12-noon.
