FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team dropped a tightly contested Skyline Conference match to Farmingdale State, 3–0 (25–21, 25–23, 26–24), on Thursday night. The loss drops the Mariners to 11-9 (5-2 Skyline) while the win improves the Rams to 12-6 (4-2 Skyline).

Carly Soboloski (Peoria, Ariz.) led the Blue and Gray offense with seven kills while sophomore
Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) and

Sofia Dohr (Austerlitz, N.Y.) had six kills each. Soboloski also recorded 11 digs and two blocks, while Douglas posted 21 digs. Sophomore
Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) registered five blocks while classmate
Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) contributed three.
Junior Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) paced the offense with 12 assists, while freshman Emma Borlie (Baltimore, Md.) added 11.
Senior Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) anchored the back line with 21 digs and added two service aces.
Set 1 – Farmingdale State 25, USMMA 21: The Mariners jumped out to a 4–0 lead behind a pair of early kills from Soboloski and a block by junior Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas) and Mayer. Farmingdale responded with a 7–1 run midway through the set, taking control with consistent attacking from Alana Henry. Soboloski recorded three kills in the frame, but the Rams closed it out, 25–21.
Set 2 – Farmingdale State 25, USMMA 23: USMMA again led early after kills from Douglas and Dohr. The Mariners rallied late from 23–20 down to pull within one at 24–23 following a block from Mayer. Farmingdale held on to take the second set on a USMMA attack error.
Set 3 – Farmingdale State 26, USMMA 24: The third set featured 14 ties and 10 lead changes. Douglas and Dohr combined for six kills, while Schatzman served two aces during a 5–1 USMMA run that gave the Mariners a 20–19 edge. Farmingdale, however, staved off two set points and closed the match with a 26–24 victory.
The Rams were led by Alana Henry with 14 kills, one block, and a .216 hitting percentage. Sarah Rende dished out 28 assists and added seven kills and two service aces, while libero Delaney Keegan tallied 19 digs. Samantha Russo and Sarah Kollarik chipped in with four and five kills, respectively.
Merchant Marine returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at home against Skyline opponent St. Joseph's Long Island at 7 p.m. at Liebertz Gymnasium.
