KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team shot just 24.1 percent (7-of-29) in the first half and fell to Mount Saint Vincent, 75-61. USMMA dropped to 6-10 (2-5 Skyline), while UMSV improved to 6-10 (3-4 Skyline).

Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) had a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double to pace USMMA. Senior
Isaac Vencel (Bloomington, Ind.) added 16 points, while junior
Clark Castleberry (Reston, Va.) made 6-of-7 field goals as part of a 13-point effort. The Mariners shot 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the floor overall and made just 5-of-27 3-pointers (18.5 percent), while also shooting just 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from the line.

Eric Woodberry had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead three players in double-figures for UMSV. The Dolphins shot 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the floor and posted a +21 margin (50-29) on the glass.

UMSV jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Zalescik got USMMA on the board with a jumper at the 16:23 mark. The Dolphins responded with another 8-0 run before Zalescik once again ended the scoreless stretch, this time with a layup that made it 16-4 with 13:29 still to play.

After the margin grew to 20 points, consecutive layups from Vencel made it a 28-12 ballgame with 7:31 to go. The USMMA deficit eventually reached 27, but a Zalescik layup brought the score to 42-17 at halftime.

A Castleberry 3-pointer keyed a quick 5-0 run that brought USMMA to within 44-22 at the 17:38 mark. USMMA closed to within 20, 51-31, before UMSV went on an 11-2 run that made it 62-33 with 9:27 left in regulation.

The Mariners still trailed by 27 when 3-pointers from freshman
Colin Hart (Santa Rosa Beach, Calif.) and
Max Koeppl (Plano, Texas) highlighted a 12-0 run that brought USMMA to within 15, 71-56, with just 1:07 on the clock. The Dolphins answered with a bucket before five-straight points from Vencel made it a 12-point game, but only 39 seconds remained.
