Mitchell Hat-Trick Helps Mariners Surge Past Yeshiva, 10-0

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2024) – Junior Morgan Mitchell (Amory, Miss.) tallied a hat-trick in just the first 10 minutes and seven other Mariners found the back of the net as the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team defeated Yeshiva, 10-0, to extend both its unbeaten streak and shutout streak to five games. USMMA improved to 4-1-2 (3-0-1 Skyline), while Yeshiva fell to 0-10 (0-8 Skyline).

Game Link The Mariners scored early and often as sophomore Alexx Forman (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied what proved to be the game-winner just 44 seconds into the contest. Mitchell then finished off a centering pass from freshman Lauren Enterline (Harrisburg, Pa.) to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead in the second minute.

After senior Natalie Colpoys (Rochester, N.Y.) found the back of the net in the sixth minute, Mitchell went around the keeper and tucked a shot into the empty net in the eighth minute. Mitchell rounded out her hat trick and put the Mariners up 5-0 in the 10th minute.

Freshman Evelyn Moore (Irwin, Pa.) made it 6-0 with a tally in the 17th minute before senior Shaylin Juhola (Brooklyn, Conn.) converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute as the Mariners took a 7-0 lead into halftime.

The crossbar kept the Mariners from adding to their lead in the 47th minute, but junior Sammy Bumann (Castle Rock, Colo.) later stole the ball and beat two defenders to make it 8-0 in the 55th minute.

Senior Natalia Gallardo (El Paso, Texas) found her way into the scoring column soon after with a goal in the 58th minute and freshman Audrey Burrell (Speedway, Ind.) added the exclamation mark in the 84th minute with a goal that put USMMA up by a 10-0 margin.

USMMA recorded advantages in shots (37-0), shots on goal (18-0) and corner kicks (9-0). Senior Margaret Ripperger (McKinney, Texas) and freshman Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) combined on the shutout.

The Mariners continue Skyline action and host their annual 142 Game at noon on Saturday, Sept. 25, against Purchase at Tomb Field.
