Mariners Shut Out Old Westbury, 4-0

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2024) – After a hot start with back-to-back goals coming in the fourth minute, the USMMA women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 home Skyline victory over Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. The win improved the Mariners' record to 3-1-1 (2-0-1 Skyline), while the Panthers fell to 3-4-1 (1-1 Skyline) with the loss.

Game Links Senior Natalie Colpoys (Rochester, N.Y.) opened the scoring with a high shot over the OW keeper just 3:05 into the game. Sophomore Ainsley Carlon (Gilbert, Ariz.) doubled the lead just 45 seconds later off an assist by freshman Lucy Thomas (Alexandria, Va.).

Carlon scored once again in the 28th minute to make it 3-0 in favor of Merchant Marine, where it stayed into the halftime break.

In the final stanza, junior Marina Ronzoni (Riverhead, N.Y.) fired in a shot from 20 yards out into the upper left of the goal to close out the scoring on the day.

Senior Margaret Ripperger (McKinney, Texas) and freshman Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) combined for the shutout, the Mariners' third of the season. Ripperger made two saves over 65 minutes, while Fields finished the final 25 minutes without facing a shot.

The Panthers' Kristen Gallagher made 10 saves in the losing effort.

Up next, the Mariners step back out of conference play with a home game against William Paterson on Monday night, Sept. 23. Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m. down at Bartoszek Field.
