KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 24, 2024) – The USMMA baseball team scored early and often to best visiting non-conference foe Saint Elizabeth, 10-1, on Wednesday at Bartoszek Field. After learning they were
featured in the first NCAA Regional Rankings of the season earlier in the day, the Mariners improved their record to 21-10, while the Eagles fell to 8-25 with the loss.

The Mariners scored a run in each of the first two innings and doubled their lead to 4-0 with two in the third. They added another in the fourth before closing out the scoring by plating five in the bottom of the eighth.

Four players recorded multi-hit games, with freshman
Landon Troutt (Fairfield, Calif.) leading the way with three, as he went 3-for-4 with one run. Junior
Travis Leatherwood (Catonsville, Md.) finished 3-for-5 with a double, a game-best three RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman
Tommy Chiappetti (Buckeye, Ariz.) added two RBIs and a run, as he went 2-for-4 with a double on the night and classmate
Ben Bridges (St. Petersburg, Fla.) stroked two doubles and was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Senior
Tyler Reistetter (Dickinson, Texas) put a bow on the night by knocking in the final two runs on an inside-the-park home run to right field. Junior
Jack Millen (Shelby, N.C.) scored twice and sophomore
Charles Cahalan (Overland Park, Kan.) touched home in the five-run eighth.

On the mound, junior
Michael Monkevich (Gaithersburg, Md.) earned the victory after tossing five scoreless innings with, allowing just three hits with three strikeouts. Four pitchers threw one inning of relief each, senior
Tommy Payton (Palm Harbor, Fla.) with a quick sixth, junior
Jacob Syversen (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) with a scoreless seventh, sophomore
Eddie Lippert (Deer Park, N.Y.) in the eighth and classmate
Caden Pierce (Marietta, Ga.) closing it out with a 1-2-3 ninth with one strikeout.

For Saint Elizabeth, freshman Trevor Policastro knocked in the Eagles' only run with an RBI-triple in the top of the eighth. Classmate Chris Povemba finished with a team-best two hits, as he went 2-for-3 and junior Ryan Deal scored the only run after he doubled in the eighth and came home on the triple.

Sophomore starter Ryan Basham suffered the loss, tossing just three innings and giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits). Sophomore reliever Kevin Conway Jr. threw the next three innings and struck out six Mariners.
