GENEVA, N.Y. (May 13, 2023) – The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team fell to the Lynx of Rhodes College, 15-5, on the campus of William Smith College inside Urick Stadium during the NCAA Tournament's Opening Round on Saturday afternoon.

The contest was evenly matched through the first quarter of play as Rhodes held a 3-2 advantage, but RC limited the Mariners to just three goals the rest of the way while scoring a dozen on their end to run away.
Kings Point won both the turnover margin (18-17, +1) as well as the ground ball war (21-20), losing for the first time with one of those statistics leaning in a positive direction towards The Academy.
Jaqui Sheedy (Baltimore, Md.) led the Blue and Gray in every major category during her Merchant Marine swan song, tallying two points on one goal and one assist, seven draw controls, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls, all team-highs.

Jenna Turrentine (Kennesaw, Ga.),
Julia Coughlin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.),
Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.), and
Meghan Malone (Crofton, Md.) while assists were dished out by
Kaitlyn Latchaw (Phoenix, Md.), and
Gianna Russo (Wake Forest, N.C.).
Amber Heverly (Arnold, Md.) capped her stellar collegiate debut campaign with a half-dozen saves.
USMMA finished the season with a 14-3 (.824) record and a 7-1 (.875) mark in the Skyline while going undefeated inside Brooks Stadium at 6-0.
The Mariners posted its sixth-straight season with an overall record at or above .500, on top of its second consecutive campaign with 14 victories.
