KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 8, 2023) – USMMA second-year head coach Carlos Mendes was voted by his peers as the 2023 Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Coach of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday! Additionally, three of his Mariners earned spots on the All-Skyline First Team – freshman forward Alexx Forman (Cincinnati, Ohio), junior midfielder Natalie Colpoys (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior defender Jasper Schineller (Tempe, Ariz.).

In just the second year of the program, Mendes led the Mariners to a regular season record of 6-5-3 (6-2-3 Skyline), which was good for the #5 seed in the Skyline Tournament. Merchant Marine went on to upset both #4 seed St. Joseph's-Long Island and the top seed and reigning conference champs Sarah Lawrence on the road to reach the Skyline Championship Game this past weekend and finished the year with an 8-6-3 record.

Forman landed on the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll twice throughout the year. One of the most vital parts of the Mariners' attack all year, the freshman played all across the front line. A very versatile player, Forman played a key part of every aspect of the offense and finished the season as the team's leading goal-scorer with four markers to go along with one assist.

Colpoys is USMMA's engine and primary playmaker, pulling the strings for the Mariners. Her distribution is one of the best in the conference. The junior finished the year as the team's leading point-scorer with 10 on three goals and four assists. This is Colpoy's second All-Skyline selection of her career, as she was named to the Second Team in 2022.

Schineller won the Skyline Defensive Player of the Week award once during the season. As center-back, the junior is the focal point of the Mariners' defense which has allowed the least amount of goals in the conference (14). She scored one goal on the season.
