BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2023) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team earned a big 82-59 road win at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday at the Bears' Hill Center Gym. The Mariners' record improves to 8-9 (6-2 Skyline), moving into a tie atop the Skyline Conference North Division, while the Bears fall to 4-13 (1-7 Skyline) with the loss.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Mariners, as junior
DeMarcus Spivey (Ashburn, Va.) led all players in the game with a career-high 19 points (thanks in large part to five 3-pointers), sophomore
Kody Robinson (Woodbridge, N.J.) added 15, junior
Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) contributed 14 and sophomore
Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) had 10. Bristow recorded a double-double, as he also brought down a game-high 10 rebounds and senior
Dante Spina (Miami, Fla.) tied his career-best with six assists.
The Mariners only trailed twice, by just two points each time, in the first 10 minutes of the game, but they turned it up just past the midway point of the opening half. The finished the half on a 23-5 run to take an 18-point lead into the halftime break, 35-16. The advantage never dropped below double-digits the remainder of the afternoon.
Merchant Marine connected on 50-percent of its shots (32-for-64) and tied for the season-high with 14 3-pointers.
Senior Anderson Beltre led the way for the Bears with 10 points, while classmate Joe Sheehan collected a team-best eight rebounds.
The Mariners return to action this coming Wednesday night, Jan. 25, when they host St. Joseph's-Long Island beginning at 7 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women's team at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
