Box Score

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2022) – The USMMA women's basketball team did not allow a single point in the final 11:44 of their road Skyline game at Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday night en route to a 84-34 victory over the Gryphons. The win for the Mariners in the regular season-finale brings their record to 20-5 (16-4 Skyline) for their third-straight 20-win season, while SLC falls to 7-15 (5-14 Skyline) with the loss.

The victory also clinches a first-round bye for the Mariners in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament which begins next week, as they cannot finish lower than second place in the final standings.

Freshman Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) scored a career-high 31 points to lead all players, while junior Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) registered a double-double with 18 points (on 9-of-13 shooting) and a game-high 18 rebounds. Senior Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) added nine points and eight boards and freshman Kaira Winston (Chesterfield, Va.) had a solid night with seven points and a game-high seven assists.

USMMA led 20-15 after a close first quarter, but started to pull away in the second and led 37-25 at halftime. After out-scoring Sarah Lawrence, 20-9, in the third, the Mariners completely shut down the Gryphons in the fourth quarter with a 27-0 showing.

Merchant Marine shot 47.9% from the field and held the SLC to 22.2%, and also out-rebounded the hosts by a 64-31 margin.

For the Gryphons, senior Camryn Davis just missed out on a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, while junior Jordyn Medina brought down a team-best 11 boards.

The Mariners will be a top-two seed in the Skyline Tournament and will host the semifinals next Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Liebertz Gymnasium.
