KINGS POINT, N.Y. (May 8, 2021) – The #1-seed U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team will play for the Skyline Conference Championship on Sunday after the Mariners defeated the #2-seed Old Westbury Panthers, 4-1, Saturday at Bartoszek Field. USMMA will play the winner of the OW vs. #4-seed SUNY Maritime game (currently underway) on Sunday at 12-noon needing just one more win to claim the conference title.

Freshman
Tyler Reistetter (Dickinson, Texas) got the start and, after allowing a first-inning run, settled down to fire seven strong innings, giving up just three hits while striking out three. Senior
Andrew Hunt (Severna Park, Md.) came in in relief in the eighth and picked up his eighth save of the year, allowing just two hits and fanning three.

The Mariners tied the score up at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on an RBI bunt single by junior
Zac Skov (San Clemente, Calif.) that brought in classmate
Brayden O'Connell (Beaver Dams, N.Y.). They took the lead with three unearned runs in the top of the fifth after a single by sophomore
Joey Zanetti (Richmond, Va.) plated senior
Timmy Chase (Scituate, Mass.), and then junior
Garrett Aichele (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) added insurance with a two-RBI single that scored senior
Jack McCann (Newark, Del.) and Zanetti.
