KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2021) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 13th-year Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Dempsey earned his 400th career victory as a head coach when the Mariners defeated Yeshiva, 66-44, on Sunday afternoon.
 
Dempsey's 400 wins come from his combined career as both the women's basketball coach for three years at Green Mountain College where he picked up 38 victories, then as the men's coach at Green Mountain for 13 seasons where he notched 216 wins, and now the 146 victories he has to his name at USMMA for the past 13 years.
 
He is already the Mariners' all-time winningest coach in program history, and he was selected as recipient of USMMA Athletics' Sue Petersen Lubow Coach of the Year Award of a women's team the past two years, as well as the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year in 2018-19.
 
Dempsey led Merchant Marine to two-consecutive Skyline Championships and appearances in the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2019 and 2020.
