Lunfsord And Crofford Lead Mariners In Road Loss At DII SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 9, 2026) – The USMMA women's swimming & diving team lost on the road at Division II Southern Connecticut State University, 199-90, on Friday night at the Owls' Hutchinson Natatorium. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 7-3, while SCSU improves to 4-1 with the victory.
 
Meet Link Juniors Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) and Victoria Crofford (Fairfax, Va.) both won two events on the night to lead Merchant Marine. Lunsford touched first in the 50 freestyle (25.58) and the 100 free (55.45), while Crofford won the one-meter dive (166.20) and the three-meter dive (155.78).
 
Three season-best times were also achieved on the night by freshman Natalie Scafetta (Menlo Park, Calif.) in the 1000 free by 23 seconds (11:11.56), senior Jessica Felske (East Troy, Wis.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.22) and junior Catherine Kennedy (Columbus, Ga.) in the 200 butterfly by 1.5 seconds (2:23.14).
 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honors, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Lunsford and Crofford for all the divers.
 
The Mariners return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, when they play host to arch-rival Coast Guard beginning at 1 p.m. at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool.
