Tedesco Reaches 350 Career Wins Plateau As Women’s Swim & Dive Sweeps Hunter & John Jay

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 6, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's swimming & diving team defeated visiting CUNYAC opponents Hunter (191-71) and John Jay (191-56) on Tuesday night at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. With the victories, 25th-year head coach Commander Sean M. Tedesco reached (and eclipsed) the 350 career win plateau for combined men's and women's dual meets throughout his tenure at Kings Point.
 
The victories improve the Mariners' record to 7-2 on the season.
 
Meet Link The Mariners won all 16 events throughout the evening. Two swimmers earned three individual wins apiece, as junior Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) touched first in the 200 freestyle (2:02.38), the 50 free (26.15) and the 500 free (5:38.21) and freshman Natalie Scafetta (Menlo Park, Calif.) won the 1000 free (12:01.48), the 200 butterfly (2:22.40) and the 200 backstroke (2:18.15).
 
Checking in with two wins each were junior diver Victoria Crofford (Fairfax, Va.) in the one-meter (173.1) and the three-meter (172.40) dive events, senior Jessica Felske (East Troy, Wis.) with triumphs in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.57) and the 200 breast (2:37.31).
 
Four other Mariners won at least one event:
  • Freshman Kaitlyn Adams (King George, Va.) won the 100 back (2:28.04)
  • Freshman Natalie Woodman (Langhorne, Pa.) won the 100 free (57.19)
  • Junior Catherine Kennedy (Columbus, Ga.) won the 100 fly (1:05.26)
  • And freshman Bryony Shipe (Ford City, Pa.) won the 200 individual medley (2:22.55), while also producing a time of 2:30.86 in the 200 fly, which was a season-best by five seconds 
In relays, the 200 medley relay team of Adams, Felske, Lunsford and Woodman led off the meet with a victory in 1:56.13 and in the finale of the meet, the 400 free relay team of Scafetta, Felske, sophomore Molly O'Brien (Social Circle, Ga.) and Woodman touched first in 3:57.66.
 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honors, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Scafetta.
 
Up next, the Mariners will travel up to New Haven, Conn., this Friday evening, Jan. 9, to face Division II Southern Connecticut State. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Owls' Hutchinson Natatorium
