WEST POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2020) – Playing with only seniors and freshmen, the USMMA men's basketball team lost its season-opening exhibition up at Division I Army West Point on Wednesday night, 93-32. The game did not count for the Mariners, but did serve as the regular season-opener for the Black Knights. 

Merchant Marine got a team-best 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals from freshman Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas). The seven boards by the plebe also tied for the game-high. 

Senior Seth Barnes (Chillicothe, Ohio) added nine points and six rebounds, while classmate James Walsh (Huntington, N.Y.) also brought down six boards. Off the bench, freshman Gavin Green (Flower Mound, Texas) chipped in with six points. 

Three players scored in double-figures for the Black Knights, as sophomore Chris Mann led everyone in the game with 14 points, junior Josh Caldwell had 12 and freshman Kwabena Davis contributed 11 off the bench. 

Caldwell, freshman Charlie Peterson and senior Nick Finke all secured seven rebounds to tie Bristow for the game-high. Freshman Noah Jager led all players on the night with eight assists. 

The remainder of the Mariners' schedule for the 2020-21 season will be announced at a later date.
