Men’s Basketball Falls At Home To Drew

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 16, 2025) - The USMMA men's basketball team lost its non-conference home game against Drew University on Tuesday night by the final score of 85-71. The setback drops the Mariners' record to 3-6 overall, while the Rangers improve to 8-1 with the win.

Game Link Freshman Jack Flannery (McKinney, Texas) led three Mariners in double-figures by tying his career-high with 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 9-of-12 from the free throw line. The plebe also brought down a team-best nine rebounds. Sophomores Tim Barton (Waldorf, Md.) and Mason Lavergne (Baton Rouge, La.) also scored in double-digits, with Barton draining 17 points and Lavergne adding 13 to go along with a team-best four assists and three steals.

USMMA shot 50.0 percent from the field and held a narrow 35-34 rebounding edge, while Drew countered with a high-volume perimeter night, knocking down 15 three-pointers and finishing at 41.9 percent overall. The Mariners controlled the paint (42-30) and got to the free-throw line consistently, but the Rangers capitalized with 34 points off of turnovers and bench production (36-8) to offset that interior advantage.

The opening half featured several early lead changes before Drew settled in with a steady run midway through the period, using perimeter shooting and transition baskets to create separation. Despite brief responses that pulled the game within a possession, Drew closed the half on an extended surge over the final five minutes to take a 42-24 advantage into the break.

In the second half, Merchant Marine opened with improved pace and interior touches, trimming the margin early before Drew answered with another decisive run that pushed the lead back out. The Mariners continued to compete through the final stretch with consistent scoring down the floor, but Drew maintained control late to close out the contest.

Junior Eli Yusavage led the Rangers with 17 points and six assists, while sophomore Ben Manns added 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including three 3-pointers off the bench. Senior Kevin Cronin controlled the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points, and classmate David Musial contributed eight points and eight boards.

The Mariners close out the 2025 portion of their schedule with a road game at Rosemont College this Saturday, Dec. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 12-noon at the Ravens' Alumnae Hall.
