Trio Of Mariner Runners Recognized By Skyline Conference

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2019) – The Skyline Conference announced the weekly honors for men's and women's cross country on Monday and three Merchant Marine runners earned praise for their performances in the 12th Annual MSMC Knight Invitational this past Saturday – freshman Sayra Raya (Wasco, Calif.) was selected as the Women's Rookie of the Week, while senior Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) and sophomore Aodhan Meyer (South Kingston, R.I.) landed on their respective weekly honor rolls. 

Raya came in third place and was the first freshman to cross the tape in the 6K race on Saturday with a time of 24:53.5. She helped lead the Mariners to a dominating first-place finish at the event. 

D'Arcy finished in second place and was the top Division III runner in the race with a time of 24:50.7. 

Meyer was the first Mariner to cross the finish line of the men's 8K race with a time of 27:21.8, which was good for sixth place. The sophomore helped lead the USMMA men to a victory at the event.

Both the Mariner men's and women's teams are back in action this coming Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel up to Canton, N.Y., to take part in St. Lawrence University's 28th Annual Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational/Pre-Atlantic Regional Meet. The men's 8K will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at noon. Both races will take place on the campus course at St. Lawrence University.
