NEW YORK (Feb. 1, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's track & field team took part in the NYC DIII Invitational at the Armory in Manhattan on Friday. The Mariners saw two Academy Records set in the distance medley relay and the 200 meter run and one ECAC qualifying mark hit in the 5,000 meter run.

The DMR team of freshmen Anna Grafton (Belmont, N.H.) and Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.), senior Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.) and freshman Brooke Jorstad (La Crosse, Wis.) set the new school mark at 13:20.80, as they came in seventh place and scored two team points for USMMA. The previous record for the distance medley relay was 13:43.66, set last season.

Junior Alexa Vandermeer (Grove Heights, Minn.) had the Mariners' other Academy Record time in the 200 meter run, as she crossed the finish line in 27.98, breaking her own record of 28.14 that she set last year.

Merchant Marine also saw top-10 finishes by freshman Robin King (Raymond, Ohio) in the 5,000 meter with a time of 18:55.53, which was an ECAC Championship qualifying mark, and junior Ally McFadyen (Saint James, N.Y.) in the weight throw with a throw of 11.52m (37' 9.5"). Both King and McFadyen came in 10th place in their respective events.
