Mariners Sweep Skyline Women’s Swim & Dive Weekly Awards

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 10, 2018) – On Monday, the Skyline Conference announced that three members of the USMMA women's swim & dive team swept the league's weekly honors for the week ending Dec. 9 – junior Meika Gathy (Waterford, Conn.) was named the Swimmer of the Week, senior Kara Korengel (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned Diver of the Week honors and freshman Chase Massey (Friendswood, Texas) was selected as the Rookie of the Week.

Gathy picked up five wins over two meets this past weekend. On Friday against Old Westbury and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, the junior touched first in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.40 and was the second leg of the 200 free relay team that won in 1:47.15. She also swam a season-best 2:06.77 in the 200 freestyle. On Saturday against Purchase, Sarah Lawrence and St. Joseph's-L.I., she won the 1000 free (11:41.91) and the 500 free (5:41.88) and was the final leg of the 400 free relay team that won in 4:04.72.

Her three-meter score was her second NCAA Qualifying Mark of the season on that board, which means she is officially headed to NCAA Regionals in March.

Massey recorded five first-place finishes and one second place finishes over the two meets. She picked up her first collegiate victory in the 50 free in 26.44 on Friday night and was a part of both the 200 medley relay (2:01.56) and the 200 free relay (1:47.15) teams that bookended the meet with victories.
