USMMA Posts Strong Outing vs. Coast Guard

Kings Point, NY – The USMMA women's swimming and diving team won six races against Coast Guard on Saturday but the Bears ultimately won Saturday's dual meet over the Mariners, 175-114.  Merchant Marine had numerous swimmers post season best times versus their service academy rivals.

"We had a fantastic day," said Head Coach Sean Tedesco.  "I'm very happy with our performance and effort today."

Freshman Jolyn Green (Riverside, CA) touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 1:04.39.  Green's second win of the day came in 2:32.91 in the 200 breaststroke as the exciting race saw just a .03 second differential to second-place.  Emily Olsen (Glenwood, NJ) and Emily Boyson (Garland, TX) notched a one-two finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Jacqueline White (Oradell, NJ) clocked in at 2:16.70 to take first-place in the 200 butterfly and later triumphed in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.30.  Nina Demet (Lake Forest, IL) out-touched the competition by .15 seconds in the 100 freestyle, winning the event in 56.40 seconds.

Merchant Marine returns to the pool Thursday night for a home meet against York and Old Westbury.
