KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 21, 2019) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior Joshua Glantzman (Allenwood, N.J.) is ranked first in the nation at the 184-pound weight class, both TrackWrestling.com and FloWrestling announced recently. As a team, the Mariners are tied for 15th in the DIII national rankings according to TrackWrestling.
Glantzman finished in fourth place at 184 at the 2019 NCAA National Championship Meet this past March. He also won his second-consecutive Centennial Conference Individual Championship. Glantzman led the Mariners to a 20th place showing at nationals.
The senior also ranks second in the 184-pound weight class in both the NWCA and the D3Wrestle rankings, and sophomore Billy Sims (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) is listed as an honorable mention in the 165-pound weight class in D3Wrestle's latest ranking.
In other news, the Mariners were selected to finish in second place in the Centennial Conference after the league conducted its Preseason Coaches Poll recently. Merchant Marine earned 31 points and two first-place votes in the poll, finishing just behind favorite Washington & Lee, which earned 33 points and four first-place votes.
USMMA finished the 2018-19 Centennial Championship Meet in third place, just 2.5 points behind the second-place Generals. Last year's conference champion, Stevens, has left the Centennial Conference.

Merchant Marine's full 2019-20 schedule is available on www.USMMASports.com. The Mariners will compete in 11 "regular season" meets ahead of three championship meets in late February-early March.
The campaign begins this Sunday, Nov. 24, at the New York State Championships hosted by Oswego State. That's followed by York College's New Standard Corp. Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 6-7.
The first of two home dual meets this season will be on Wednesday, Dec. 11, against Hunter College at 6 p.m. inside the Liebertz Gymnasium. From there it's back-to-back Saturdays at local events in the New York Metro Area – the Long Island Open hosted by Nassau Community College on Dec. 14 and the Jersey City Duals hosted by Jersey City University on Dec. 21.
The first meet of the New Year is the annual North-South Duals hosted by Ursinus on Saturday, Jan. 11, followed by a road dual at Centenary College on Saturday, Jan. 18. The 26th Annual All-Academy Championships is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
February opens with back-to-back Saturdays at Centennial tri-matches. The first on Feb. 1 at Ursinus where the Mariners will take on Gettysburg, the host Bears and Johns Hopkins, and the second on Feb. 8 at McDaniel where they'll face the host Green Terror, Muhlenberg and Washington & Lee.
The annual showdown with arch-rival Coast Guard is a home dual scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Liebertz Gym. The two teams will be battling for a point in the overall 2019-20 Superintendents' Trophy standings.
Then the Mariners move into "Championship" mode, as the Centennial Conference Championship Meet is Saturday, Feb. 15, at Muhlenberg, followed by the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by Ithaca on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 29-March 1. At the Regional meet, USMMA will look to send wrestlers through to the NCAA National Championships, which will take place Friday-Saturday, March 13-14, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
