CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 27, 2018) – The USMMA wrestling team competed in the prestigious All-Academy Championships on Saturday, hosted by The Citadel. The Mariners joined Division I programs Army West Point, Navy, Air Force, The Citadel and VMI as well as DIII programs Coast Guard and Norwich for a great day of wrestling.
Merchant Marine placed seventh out of the eight teams with 15.5 points. Navy won the event with 118 points, followed by Army West Point in second (96.5) and Air Force in third (87).
The biggest news of the day for the Mariners was junior Victor Raigoza (Orland, Calif.) upsetting the heavyweight bracket's top seed in the semifinals, Austin Faunce from Navy, to reach the finals at 285. He finished the day with a 2-1 record with one pin and earned 11 points for USMMA.
Also earning points for the Mariners were freshman Kieran Duggan (Woodbury, Conn.), who went 1-2 with a pin at 157 to take 2.5 points and sophomore Joshua Glantzman (Allenwood, N.J.), who also had a 1-2 record with a tech. fall at 174 to grab two points.

The Mariners are back in action again next Saturday, Feb. 3, when they travel to Westminster, Md., for a Centennial Quad Match against conference opponents Johns Hopkins, Washington & Lee, Gettysburg and hosts McDaniel. Action is set to get underway at 12-noon at the Green Terror's Gill Center Gymnasium. A live video feed of the day will be available at this link.
