KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2015) – On Saturday, the USMMA wrestling team took part in the Seventh Annual New Standard Corporation Invitational, hosted by York College in Pennsylvania. For the second-straight weekend, the Mariners had two wrestlers place at a tournament.

Freshman Kimo Dial (Poway, Calif.) came in fifth place in 133 after recording a 6-2 record. The rookie won his opening round bout, before falling in the second round to the bracket's #3 seed. He motored through the consolation bracket, picking up a 6-4 decision over the #9 seed Joseph Ferinde of Johnson & Wales along the way and lost in the consolation semis to #2 Ryan Flynn of York to earn a spot in the fifth-place match. He won the fifth-place bout by a medical forfeit.

Senior Ricky Fisher (Nashville, Tenn.) battled his way to a second-place finish at 197. Going into the bracket as the #3 seed, Fisher won his first four bouts, including a quarterfinals win over #6 John Shorter of York, an 11-6 decision. He then took care of Elizabethtown's Luke Fernandez in the semis (3-1 decision) to go on to face #1 seed David Welch of Roger Williams in the finals. He dropped that bout in a technical fall, 16-0, after 3:45 of time.

Other winning record on the day included junior Nathan Twito (Ames, Iowa) going 5-2 at 149, freshman Erik Beshada (South River, N.J.) going 3-2 at 157 and classmate Brandon Joest (Kendallville, Ind.) battling his way to a 4-2 mark at the heavyweight class.

As a team, the Mariners came in 14th place out of 16 teams at the event.

USMMA returns to action this Saturday, when the squad hosts the annual Mariner Duals. Action is set to get underway at 11 a.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. A live video feed of the Mariners' mat (mat #1) will be available by clicking here.
